Day 31: Wed 9 Aug: Stockholm
Cycle: 27 km - Total so far: 1,424 km
Start time: 8:45
Stop time: 4:10pm
Weather: fine and mostly sunny, 16 to 22deg
Took our time over breakfast and met up downstairs at 8:45am for our 6km ride into the city. Ken, Maree, Wendy and Greg went straight to the Vasa Museum (17th century Swedish warship that had sunk 20 minutes after launch) while Mick and Kate (who had already done Vasa) went off to do the wildlife park nearby. Vasa was just incredible, the whole story about the ship, which was raised and preserved in the 1950s and 60s. The ship is 98 percent original and what they've done and the work still being completed is a credit to this country.
Wendy, Ken and Maree decided they wanted to see the ABBA Museum but Greg drew the line there. While they were doing the 'Dancing Queen' thing Greg rode around the National Park. Wendy and Greg then rode out to the Ericsson Globe, the largest dome building in the world. We ended up in a glass gondola on top of it, with fantastic views over Stockholm.
That was enough for us for the day so it was back to the hotel to
sort our stuff out for our flight (minus the bike and gear) to Helsinki
tomorrow. Dinner (our choice) was Indian
takeaway on the boardwalk a couple of 100 m from the hotel. Very nice it was.
