Day 44: Tue 22 Aug 17: Copenhagen to Dubai
Start time: 7am (Copenhagen)
Stop time: 12 midnight (Dubai)
Weather: some clouds and sun, 14 to 20deg (doesn't matter as we aren't riding)
We did not have to be at the airport till 12midday so no hurry with breakfast
again this morning. Took us about an hour to clean (must be very clean for Oz
Quarantine) and box the two bikes. We have a well drilled system and seeing
we're using the same boxes and packaging it's dead easy. Greg has reinforced
two QANTAS bike boxes and glued high impact foam inside to protect the vital
"organs" of the bikes. We then finished our packing in the
room. This time we brought a small wheely suitcase each to make it easy to move
around. Of course, all this only works if you fly in and out of the same
airport and use the same hotel.
Getting to the airport with a fairly large box each, in addition to a piece of luggage each can be problematic. Wendy asked the reception to book the same maxi cab (4 bike boxes, luggage and four pax) we caught on the way in. Disappointingly they said because it's in the city they would charge A$60 to get to the hotel, then the price to the airport. As we are not keen on rip-off merchants, we told them to stick their big cab and send two wagons. We'd rather pay more than feel we'd been taken for fools. A short time later they both turned up and one driver said "no way, it's not going to fit" while the other said, "we'll make it fit". So, we loaded the boxes and luggage into the back of the wagons, with the back seat laid down. Wendy and Mick then got in the front seat of their respective cabs while Greg and Kate walked the 100m or so to the driverless train station. A train arrived 30 seconds later and after only two stops we were at the airport for A$5 each. Check in was quick and painless.
About 15 minutes later Wendy and Greg were drinking a tonic water (wine for
Wendy) at the Code-Share Airport Lounge (Aviator) for Copenhagen. Flight left
on time and was a nice quiet six hours rest.
