Day 28: Sun 6 Aug: Eskilstuna to Sodertalje
Cycle: 93 km - Total so far: 1,326
km
Start time: 8:15am
Stop time: 2:30pm
Weather: fine to start then rain after the first hour, 17 to 15deg, it got
colder as the day progressed!
Due to all the rain over the last few days we decided that it would be a good idea to avoid the dirt tracks today. This would entail a few more km, in fact about 13. It turned out to be one of those days that you just want to finish. We got away ok on a nice bike path but came to a halt within a few km when Google Maps had us on the E20, an expressway with 120km/hr speed limit and no bikes. We soon got around that and clocked up 20km in the first hour. We stopped for our customary rest and almost immediately we were hit with a heavy downpour of rain. After waiting for the worst to pass and getting the rain jackets on, we headed off again into light rain. Basically, we didn't stop till Strangnas, the 40km mark and morning tea. The rain wasn't heavy but off and on, just enough to put a dampener on proceedings.
Lunch was taken in a less-than-salubrious spot, under a flyover of the E20. After that we just pushed on till Sodertalje. Considering the terrain, the rain and the distance today we did pretty good to be finished by 2:30pm. When you consider we're in the wettest region of Europe, we've been very fortunate with the weather. A nice hot shower and dry clothes were very welcome.
Pre-dinner drinks were in the hotel lobby and dinner was at an Italian/Greek place overlooking the lake. We were all pretty knackered by this time, so didn’t takt too long over dinner. A short walk around the lake settled the dinner before heading back to the hotel to complete the night time routine.
