Day 8: Mon 17 Jul: Aarhus to Randers

Cycle: 51 km - Total so far: 250 km

Start time: 8:45am
Stop time: 11:35am
Weather: sunny and clear to start and then cloudy with a cool wind, 12 to 18deg

A rather short ride today due to the lack of hotel options on or near the route north. Brilliant sunshine greeted us but that soon turned cloudy and cool with a very lazy westerly wind. Lucky we were heading north so not too bad. The ride was mainly through farming country with amazingly healthy crops of maize, wheat, barley, broad beans, peas, canola and oats.

Checkin turned into a task as the auto-receptionist (machine) would not accept the booking number 😡 Just can't reason with a computer. Ken ended up ringing a real person and we sorted it out. After dumping our gear in the rooms we walked across the road to The Sunset Restaurant (Danish Maccas/Subway) for lunch.

Most of us were feeling ripped off about the short cycle day so after settling in we went for a local spin on the bikes. We discovered a lovely little town with a real sense of pride about the place.

One big fan on the way to Randers

Our home for the night; Hotel X used to be called Motel 1 which equates to Formula One which equals very darn basic. #331

Our small but functional bathroom

The sausage man

Sct Clemens Gaard - another old building at Randers

A very old building at Randers

A brand new railway line with a great cycle path beside it

Mainly through farmlands today

Wildflowers are everywhere this time of the year

The Church of the Day

The Vikings are never far away; this pic was part of a display in a shelter which told the story about an archeological dig that had taken place in the area. They are proud of their Viking heritage.
